We belong here

We belong here

This installation (as well as the photo credit) is the work of contemporary artist Tavares Strachan, You Belong Here. shown at Biennal Prospect3 New Orleans, October 25, 2014 – January 25, 2015.

Gotta love public installations and how they bring about interruption and disruption.

You Belong Here, in the artist’s words, is “both a question and an affirmation that prompts a set of considerations around who the “you” may be, what it means to “belong” or not to belong, and where ‘here’ may be.”

This artwork can challenge how we are seen and how we see ourselves and others.

Both you and I (we) belong here, in this COVID-19 reality that is both an uncertain, sick and unfair world while also being a beautiful, fun and exciting place to live. We belong here, along with the good, the bad and the ugly. The environment and context will continue to shift, but we belong here and we belong to each other.
